The first mini PC in the world with a top-of-the-range Intel processor of the thirteenth generation is Geekom's Mini IT13, which it can boast on board the i9-13900H chip, a beast with 14 cores and up to 5.4 GHz. Compact and lightweight, this small computer can be useful for a wide range of applications ranging from productivity to content creation up to entertainment and gaming, albeit with some inevitable limitations . How did it perform during our intensive test?
Complete hardware for all-round use
The model we tested therefore had the i9-13900H chip on board accompanied by dual-channel DDR4 RAM memory, 2 TB internal memory for storage, Iris Xe graphics card, support for Wi-Fi 6e wireless connection and Bluetooth 5.2 and cooling system with fan. At the level of connections there are two USB 4 ports for 8K support at 30 fps, 1 USB 2 port and a second generation USB 3.2 port, two HDMI 2.0 up to 4K and 60 fps, a LAN (2.5 Gbps) and an SD card reader. You can therefore connect up to 4 displays, but also connect to an internal graphics card.
Limits to take into consideration
For those who love tinkering with PCs, the first step is to access the bios, but in this case you immediately discover that it is too basic and above all does not allow you to act further with further system configurations and customizations, for example for managing consumption energy or for resource allocation. In any case, with the standard configurations everything goes smoothly, you can push yourself with multitasking without problems and we have not encountered any particular problems in daily use. The cooling system is promised as silent, but when the miniPC is under strain you can actually hear the fan turning, therefore it is not recommended for example to be mounted in audio recording studios or for podcasts.
The heat dissipation system is not only noisy, but it is also the biggest compromise of this miniPC given that in order to compact the footprint as much as possible it does not allow you to push the i9 processor to its maximum potential. The demonstration comes from benchmark data, for example Geekbench stops at 2297 points in single-core and 11202 in multi-core, which are good but not excellent as one would expect from a computer (albeit compact) with 13th generation i9; certainly the DDR4 RAM instead of the faster DDR5 is also responsible for the performance not being at the top in the benchmarks.
A wide range of potential typical users
What is the typical user to whom you would recommend Mini IT13 in its maximum configuration with i9 processor? Cross off the list the most demanding ones like him hardcore gamer and who needs to edit videos at high resolutions and frequencies, this little PC is perfect for small office workstations given that it can be mounted anywhere (even behind the monitor or on the wall with the Vesa bracket) being able to better manage productivity software, but also Autocad with 3D processing. It can act as a good support for content creators who need to work with photo or video files that are not excessively complex and heavy with the most common software from Photoshop to Premiere and alternatives.
By purchasing it on the Geekom official website you can get one discount additional 40 euros by inserting the WRDA5 coupon reserved for readers of Wired and it is good to take advantage of promotions, because the full price is quite important, while with discounts the price becomes decidedly competitive.
